The Weight of Quiet Love
Archives have always seen as stagnant in the past, a memory held in time. However, could there be more uncovered through the depths of archives? A source, of endless inspiration both visually and conceptually.
The Weight of Quiet Love is a collection of mixed media artworks inspired by the archives presented in The Powerhouse Collection. The creative project seeks to reveal the often - overlooked emotional and physical labour surrounding women’s roles in the building and maintenance of her home. Home in this realm is both a physical domestic space and, by extension, the people who reside in it. Drawing from traditional notions of ‘feminine duties,’ the project explores how care is expressed not through grand gestures, but through repetition, attentiveness, and quiet endurance. Reframing women’s work as a beautiful, emotional complexity as opposed to a ‘gendered expectation.’ With imagery that lingers between softness, stillness, and subtle imperfection, the work captures her moments of vulnerability alongside resilience. Inviting viewers to re-position domestic care as a powerful, enduring force - one that, while often silent, continuously shapes the foundation of everyday homes.
